Games I Play
These are the games I really like and actually play. For the record, I have no association with these publishers and creators. I make no money from their games or what I write about them. I just love these folks’ stuff.
Barbarians of Lemuria (Ludospherik).
I’m really big on BoL right now. A buddy of mine pointed me in their direction for their Swords & Sorcery mindset and their magic system, which I really dig. The new Mythic+ edition by Ludospherik is really great, and their new artwork is inspirational.
FTL: Nomad (and a host of other games by Stellagama Publishing).
I’m also big on the various games that Stellagama has been putting out for my SF and modern gaming. I do have to say, though, that they have a large catalog that can be difficult to decipher—FTL: Nomad is their flagship SF ruleset, but they also have Quantum Starfarer and Solar Winds as stripped down rulesets. Does one replace the other, etc? Regardless—their stuff is great. Check them out.
Blades & Black Magic (CR Brandon).
My first roleplaying love was The Fantasy Trip by Metagaming, back in the late 70s/early 80s. Blades & Black Magic really took that system and made a great game out of it by cleaning up some issues and streamlining the rules. Unfortunately, the creator has not come out with the 2nd half of the game, the magic part. I hate to say it, but I think he has moved on to other things, and this is an orphaned game. Still—it is worth checking out.
Solo (Zozer Games).
The best solo gaming system I have found so far is definitely Solo. The method they use is not for everyone, but I think it really works for solo players. It just cuts through a lot of the noise and lets you get on with the adventure. Anyway, they have a number of other great supplements as well, especially their Hostile series of SF setting books.
